Nominations for the “Spirit of Rema” Award 2012 – 2013

Trophy Donated by Ian Stephen
This is a new award
starting in 2010. This is to be an annual prize for the skipper who undertakes
an exceptional passage in the "Spirit of Rema" or has recently
take-up the sport of sailing, or has displayed something which is in keeping
with the sensibilities of Edward who over wintered in Stornoway 2010 and who
contributed much to the local sailing community around the harbour.
Guide When submitting your nomination and descriptive
account, which describes the passage or event, and people being nominated
please provide sufficient information to assist the judges make an overall well
informed judgment. When the judges receive a nomination, which just says “Jimmy
sailed from A to B and deserves to win” does not really flesh out the
achievement. Remember the judges are not necessary active in the festival and
most probably do not know the individual who is being nominated. Where possible
the committee have enlisted judges who do not know who-is-who amongst our
sailing community so that they can be as impartial as is possible. So all they
have to go on is what you tell them. Tell them what planning when into the
passage, what obstacles needed careful pre-planning and what makes the passage
so deserving. The passage does not necessarily need to be crossing the Minch in
a Force 10 in a bucket, it can be a well executed sail around the harbour, just
a long as it shows the individual or group undertaking the passage has achieved
something worthy, and in the sprit of Edward, which will include, sailing for
pleasure in a safe and courteous manner, to the best of ones ability,
displaying skill and innovation, taking note of the forecast and conditions,
great seamanship and enjoying being on the water.
